Lake Monger Community Shed - News

To kick-off 2020, the Shed Team organised a bowls / BBQ evening at the Lake Monger Recreation Club which was a terrific success with 80 members, partners and members of the W.A.  Deaf Recreation Association and Petanque Clubs also joining in. The evening would not have been such a success without the bowls tuition from Rob Mosely and Peter Hill from the LMRC bowls club. I am not sure we identified any hidden talents.

During the latter half of 2019 Shed members visited a number of other sheds to help us learn from their experiences. In particular to assist with our equipment purchase selections, shed layout designs, get a better understanding of the typical projects that they undertake, and also to understand the secrets of installing dust extractions systems. Visits included: •  Vincent Shed visit; •  Mosman Park Community Shed; and •  Manning Shed.

We conducted our AGM in late November 19 which was very well attended. Robert Fredericks was elected to join the Shed Board. Fees for the next year will be $70

In-conjunction with the school P&C, Shed members built and installed a mud bench at the City Beach Primary School in their new vegetable Garden enclosure.

Our meeting on 19 June, Shed members visited the Vincent Shed (VMS) in North Perth. Bill Barns facilitated the visit where we were given a comprehensive demonstration of their CNC router system, which once programed automatically manufactures the designed work piece. After coffee, we discussed the way they set up and run their shed. We were then shown some extremely interesting equipment such as the Sawstop table saw. This saw incorporates new technology that significantly mitigates the chances of hand injuries (see the following video).  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wtdUfZGfMg

Gary Gleeson and Max Puddey attended the launch of the W.A, Government Men’s Health & Wellbeing policy on 10 June at the state library. This policy will provide input into some of the proposed shed activities.
